  Comments
US indices closed higher on Thursday, boosted by shares in the Household & Personal Products (+1.45%), Software & Services (+1.34%) and Food, Beverage & Tobacco (+1.22%) sectors. On the economic data front, initial jobless claims reached 201k in week ended September 15th (estimated 210k) from 204k in the previous week. Continuing claims came out to 1.645M in week ended September 8th (forecasted 1.705M) compared to 1.696M a week earlier. In other news, the Philadelphia Federal Business Outlook increased to 22.9 in September (expected 18) vs. 11.9 in August. The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index improved to 60.2 in week ended September 16th from 59 in the prior week. In addition, the Leading Index improved by 0.4% in August (estimated 0.5%) vs. 0.6% in July. Finally, existing home sales remained unchanged MoM at 5.34M in August (expected 5.37M). The S&P 500 (2,930.75) remains above its 20d moving average (2,893.63 - positive slope) and 50d moving average (2,854.76 - positive slope).

Micron Technology (MU) reported 4Q adj. EPS of $3.53 (estimated $3.33) vs $2.02 a year ago on net sales up 38% YoY to $8.44B (forecasted $8.25B). Net income jumped 83% YoY to $4.33B. "Micron delivered an exceptional fourth quarter and capped record fiscal year results by becoming the second largest semiconductor company in the U.S.," said Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of Micron Technology.

Texas Instruments (TXN) boosted its quarterly dividend by 24% YoY to $0.77 (estimated $0.75) and announced that its Board has authorized a repurchase of an additional $12B of its common stock over time.

Medtronic PLC (MDT) said it has agreed to acquire Israel-based medical device maker Mazor Robotics (MZOR) for $58.50 per American depository share, or $1.64B, in cash. The deal is expected to close during Medtronic's third fiscal quarter, ending January 25.

McDonald's Corp (MCD) said it raised its quarterly dividend by 15% to $1.16. In addition, the Co is targeting about $25B of returns for the three years ending 2019, compared with $24B as of January.

Molina Healthcare (MOH) said Vice President Woys James has bought 25,000 shares of the Co at average price of $148.79, or $3.7M.
