  Comments
On Monday, U.S. stocks closed in negative territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 54.34pts (-0.16%) to 34327, the S&P 500 slid 10.56pts (-0.25%) to 4163 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell 80.21pts (-0.6%) to 13312. The Telecommunication Services (-1.75%), Automobiles & Components (-1.39%) and Utilities (-0.86%) sectors were under pressure while the Energy (+2.3%), Materials (+0.9%) and Banks (+0.74%) sectors performed the best. On the U.S. economic data front, Empire Manufacturing for the current month was recorded at 24.3, surpassing the median estimates of 23.9. On the U.S. Corporate front, AT&T (T), a telecommunications giant, agreed to combine its content assets with mass media factual television company Discovery Inc (DISCA). Netflix (NFLX), the video streaming service, and Walt Disney (DIS), the entertainment and media giant, slid following the news on the media merger between AT&T and Discovery Inc as the merger will heighten competition in the industry. Netflix recovered during the trade session and fell only -0.90% by the end of the day while Walt Disney suffered a -2.08% daily loss.
